Where communication stops working

The difference between speaking and being heard shows up in the difficult moments: when you feel ignored, when an ordinary request turns into a row, when the emotion arrives before the sentence does, or when the two of you are reading the same situation in completely different ways. A substantial part of the work is on empathic communication and on listening properly — understanding what the other person is trying to say, noticing your own way of reacting to it, and building an exchange that gets somewhere.

Parental leadership

The word is used here in a narrow sense: offering guidance and being consistent, keeping the commitments you make, taking responsibility for your own decisions, and recognising when you have to correct yourself. It means accompanying a child without standing in for them — holding support and growing autonomy together, which are easier to describe than to do at seven in the evening. It is built over time, and it requires working on how you communicate, how you react and how you decide.

Continuing, and practical

Each session involves exercises, questions, discussion and application to real situations, and participants can bring their own difficulties into the group. The trainers contribute, and so does the company of people in the same role living in different circumstances. Continuity is the point: the same abilities are returned to over time, tried out in ordinary life in between, and reread afterwards with something new to read them with.

Why it is built this way

An ability is acquired when it starts to change how you handle a situation, not when you know about it. The work is on that passage — from understanding something to doing it — with the aim of leaving a parent more aware of their own way of educating, and with more options available in the moments that ask for listening, or firmness, or patience.
